Planted tank maintenance isn’t all that different from any other aquarium. With good husbandry practices, a novice hobbyist can keep a planted tank in great shape. Planted tank cleaning would be like any other aquarium. Algae still has to be scrubbed, a percentage of water needs to be changed, and filters will have to be maintained or replaced. The only major difference is to correct both micro and macro nutrients.

A good or proper aquarium setup or installation should always take into account for maintaining the system. It makes no sense to setup an aquarium that’s difficult to work on. Care level really depends on what types of fertilizers you use.

EI Method – Estimated Index is a DIY powdered fertilizer method of dosing nutrients for maximum plant growth.
Liquid Dosing – Monthly or bi-weekly dosing in the exact amount to replace used nutrients in the aquarium.
CO2 Dosing – Carbon dioxide (CO2) is necessary for plant photosynthesis and injected into the water with a diffuser.
